Swansea v Newcastle match preview

If Garry Monk is to be believed, all is well off the field and the Swansea City players are not at each other’s throats. On the field, however, concerns are growing all the time. If his team were to lose on Saturday, they could find themselves level on points with a side in the relegation zone with just three games remaining in this Premier League season.
If Monk does not wish that season to be his last as the club’s manager, he surely needs to claim his first away win against Newcastle. Pardew’s men are in poor form themselves, with nothing left to play for, it has been speculated that the team’s many foreign imports are not putting themselves at risk of injury prior to the world cup. The players already injured are numerous and include the likes of Sissoko, Steven Taylor and Ben Arfa. Top scorer Loic Remy will be the subject of a late fitness test.
For Swansea, they will once again be without Michu, whose ankle problems continue to frustrate him. And fiery Spanish centre-half Chico Flores will be replaced by Jordi Amat due to the former’s suspension. It remains to be seen whether the rumoured spat with the manager will mean either Canas or Pozuelo will even make the trip, but Jonjo Shelvey’s recent performances certainly make the case for his replacement, whether by the aforementioned, or by one of the club’s promising young players.
It is conceivable that the future of both managers hangs in the balance, but for Garry Monk, his status as totemic figure in the club’s rise up the football league is under threat. Should the Swans lose on Saturday- and other results not favour them- the panic button will be well and truly pressed.
