World Cup betting tips
The World Cup is almost upon us and thatsagoal.com have picked out their World Cup winner betting tip from the 32 nations competing.
Host nation Brazil head the market but it is one of their South American rivals that we are tipping to go all the way and lift the World Cup trophy on Sunday June 13th in the Maracana.
The team we are talking about are Argentina and their attacking prowess can fire them to glory on the turf of their arch enemies Brazil. Not only do Argentina have Lionel Messi in their ranks, but he will be accompanied by Premier League winner Sergio Aguero and formidable centre forward Gonzalo Higuain in what looks an unstoppable attacking line up for the Argentines.
Behind the strikers Champions League winner Angel Di Maria will provide the energy and devastating bursts from midfield while Fernando Gago will be tasked with dictating the play from midfield. Javier Mascherano is the man to knit the whole team together, breaking up opposition play and protecting the back four. The front six for Argentina are a big reason why we’re backing them in our World Cup betting tips to win the tournament but can the defence hold up?
The Argentina defence is where the scrutiny begins but aside from left back and arguably the goalkeeper, you cannot really question the strength they have all over the park. Pablo Zabaleta was the best right back in the Premier League last season and Ezequiel Garay will be barking the orders from centre half, he guided Benfica to the treble in Portugal and can guide his nation to World Cup glory in Brazil. Alongside him could be another Premier League winner in Martin Demichelis or Napoli rock Federico Fernandez may well get the nod on the back of an impressive season in Italy. Marcos Rojo will be given the left-back berth despite being a centre back by trade and he is certainly capable of filling in.
As well as having arguably the best squad and certainly the best forward line in Brazil, Argentina have one of the most favourable draws, both in travelling and in matches themselves. Their group games should allow the front three to ease their way into the tournament away from the hotter climates on North Brazil and should they win the group, the small amount of travel will continue deep into the tournament.
It won’t be until the quarter finals where things get tougher for Argentina but a last eight match against likely opponents Portugal or Germany is nothing to worry us as punters and even a potential semi-final against Spain wouldn’t see us waving our cash goodbye.
The World Cup never pans out as expected but Argentina could not wish for a better draw and if they are going to end 28 years of waiting to be World Champions, what better place to do it than on Brazilian turf?
